Cappadocia, An Unlikly Destination Wedding

Updated: Feb 4, 2019

When thinking of destination weddings, one usually thinks of Turks and Caicos, the Bahamas, or some tropical, crystal clear blue water beach wedding. Rarely is Turkey thought of when picturing a destination wedding. Unless you are from Turkey, the likelihoods that you will want to travel to the country for your wedding is slim. That is, until you’ve seen the outstanding wedding photography of @ilkerkatik.

Located outside of Istanbul, this Turkish wedding photographer knows how to shoot his shot against the breathtaking sight of Cappadocia, Turkey. Cappadocia, or Kapadokya, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site ( http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/357 ) Originally formed by an ancient volcanic explosion, then by erosion, the overbearing rock spires, or pinnacles are better known as “fairy chimneys”

The Göreme Valley was carved out in the 4th century by Byzantine villagers. Along with the breathtaking landscapes, visitors can also see the remains of traditional human habitats, underground towns and troglodyte villages! Why not get some history in on your wedding day?

The Göreme valley and its surroundings contain rock-hewn sanctuaries that provide unique evidence of Byzantine art in the post-Iconoclastic period. Dwellings, troglodyte villages and underground towns – the remains of a traditional human habitat dating back to the 4th century – can also be seen there.

As amazing, and mysterious as underground villages are, they don’t hold a candle to the gorgeous backdrops created by the most amazing hot air balloon spectacles you will likely ever witness. Every morning around 4-5AM hundreds of hot air balloons are inflated to create the most magical backdrop for your unique wedding pictures.

Wake up early to get ready and, enjoy a beautiful sunrise breakfast with your new spouse and guests. As the balloon inflates (about 20 minutes) laugh, drink and take some amazing pictures on the ground. Once the balloon is fully inflated and everyone is on board, take off for an hour of unforgettable sights and memories.

Say “I Do” early in the morning while floating over the fairy chimneys, the magic of the moment will overpower the magic of the landscape, coming together to create the day you’ll never forget.

No matter where you are located, traveling to Turkey for your wedding is a great idea. If you are thinking of planning a destination wedding, don’t forget about Cappadocia.
