A Ralph Lauren Wedding
The world renowned designer, Ralph Lauren, has only ever designed three wedding dresses. Two of the dresses were specially handcrafted for his own family members. Daughter Dylan, and Daughter-in-Law, Lauren. The third was for the beautiful Bollywood superstar, Priyanka Chopra.
The designer is at the center of the Chopra-Jonas union. The two met at the Vanity Fair Oscars after party in 2017, but only briefly as Chopra had to catch a plane back to India. The two texted constantly for months until Ralph Lauren invited the two to the Met Gala. When Jimmy Kimmel asked Chopra why she attended the Met Gala with Jonas, she replied, "We were both wearing Ralph Lauren, and we decided to go together, and it was fun."
Inviting the couple, ignited a romance. We have Lauren to thank for the beautiful, five-day ceremony. It’s only fitting that Lauren design a dress for a wedding inspired by him. For the Western portion of the Jonas-Chopra wedding extravaganza, both paid homage to the man who started it all.
For Saturday's Christian ceremony, Chopra donned a sheer, handmade Ralph Lauren gown that took 1,826 hours to create. According to People, the beaded long-sleeved gown was embroidered with 2,380,000 mother of pearl sequins, along with hand-stitching of her parents' names, the date of her wedding and Jonas' full name. The Bollywood superstar also sported a 75-foot veil and Jimmy Choos for the extravaganza.
Jonas also sported a custom Ralph Lauren suit for the nuptials, as did the bridal party and the bride's mom and the groom's parents.
Looks like Ralph could use a break after all this custom design work.
Let's take a look at the other Ralph Lauren gowns
June of 2011, Lauren designed a dress for his one and only Daughter, Dylan. In a family interview with Oprah, Ralph said how difficult it was to get the dress exactly right. He detailed the amount of sketches he had turned down by his wife, Ricky, and by Dylan. “Ricky looked at the first drawing and said, ‘Ralph, that’s not Dylan. I think she should have this and should have this,'” Ralph told Winfrey. “Nothing was perfect.”
Of course the pressure was on, the only daughter should have the most perfect gown. “I had to do something that was better than ever before,” Ralph said. “That’s the only daughter I have. I wanted to just give her something that she’d really treasure, give her something that would be really amazing, and I wanted her to feel fantastic.”
He hit the nail right on the head, Dylan said she was speechless upon seeing her gown for the first time. “I may not take off the dress after the wedding,” she told Winfrey. “I told my fiancé I may sleep in it, I may wear it the next day. It’s really beautiful. It’s stunning.”
The following September, Lauren designed another dress. for his Daughter-In-Law, Lauren. The Granddaughter to George H. W. Bush and the son of the famous designer held their ceremony on the Bush family’s giant Colorado ranch.
The dress was a bit reminiscent of Kate Middleton’s modest wedding dress, with long, sheer tulle sleeves, covered in embroidery, layered on a strapless gown. The dress took about 100 people more than 3,000 hours to embroider the tulle with ivory silk and metallic thread, Swarovski Elements crystals, and off-white pearl beads. Again, Ralph pulls off an absolute knockout of a dress. These Lauren women, and Priyanka, are lucky to have him in their lives!
